My friend asked me to write about who inspires me in 50 words, for a uni project she’s doing. I got slightly carried away…

There are certain people that inspire you to pursue your loves and passions. Friends, family, lovers, artists, writers, musicians. You can pin point the event when you decided, ‘that’s what I want to do, that is where I want to go.’ You will remember them when you get your first novel through from the press, when you buy the mortgage on your dream home in California or when you see their proud eyes from the graduation podium.

But for me, my inspiration comes from moments. Moments where I’m hurting from the pit of my chest and then I hear a song that lifts the pain out of the goose bumps on my arms. Or, when I read the last full stop of a novel that turns my perspective inside out and upside down so I sleep heavier at night. Moments where I realise that only the dimples of one pair of cheeks can read my fidgeting hands. I carry those moments like love notes in my pocket. I pin them to every corner of my mind. There, my inspiration grows.
